…Also come celebrate, eat flag-decorated cakes and have a talk with the curators, when WAS throws a special sunday-celebration on September 5, from 12-4 pm on the newly appointed official national Flag Day. A flag day which holds Dannebrog hostage - for good or bad!

TV-pausen fandt sted fra d. 14 - 21 august 2010, hvor indbyggerne mødtes for sammen at skabe skulpturen med navnet “New Life Horbelev”.

Spiren til projektet begyndte allerede i foråret da Wooloo tog kontakt til det lille anpartsselskab Nordøstfalsters Fremtidsforening, der netop arbejder på at skabe nyt liv.

Skulpturen blev skabt af gamle ting og sager som indbyggerne havde fundet i deres garager og kældre og stod således færdig 52 meter lang d. 21 august. Alle 30 deltagende husstandes fjernsyn var installeret i skulpturen hvor der kørte portrætter og film af de mennesker der havde været med til at skabe “New Life Horbelev”. The Danish flag, Dannebrog, has undergone a number of semiotic turns. In the light of globalization and a growing popularity of the Danish political right-wing, the action of flying the flag e.g. at birthdays, no longer seems to solely correspond with the celebratory event of the birthday itself.

Drawing on inspiration from Paul Gernes’ proposals for the EF flag of 1972-73 – recently exhibited at Documenta XII – the exhibition sets out to investigate the innocence in the celebratory act of waving the flag. With a playful approach, the exhibition investigates the flag as cultural signifier, and questions the idea of production of static identity categories through the common symbols of the flag.

The exhibition runs during the newly appointed official national Flag Day on September 5th - where we invite you to come celebrate, eat flag-decorated cakes and have a talk with the curators! Sunday September 5 from 12-4 pm….

Hands up, how many people here have heard of the Hesinki-based Flow festival? If you read the last issue of our physical magazine, you may have noticed that we ran a feature on Helsinki, which featured Flow. But apart from that, we’re willing to bet that you’ve yet to hear about this exquisite three-day party that takes place in an old, discarded electricity plant in Finland’s vibrant culture capital. That all looks set to change, however, as Flow is run by passionate, tightly organised music nerds with a knack for booking the most interesting and relevant acts, which also happen to be the very same acts that Finland’s creative community can be dragged out of their vintage Eames armchairs to see. And if there’s any justice in the world, Flow will be another permanent stop on the knowing European party-goer’s summer trek through the continent.

The first book, ‘PAPIR’ is released the first day. The book works as a curated exhibition, where each invited artist has produced own invidivual part in the book.

On the second day the book ‘Matter seems luminescent’ is launched, presenting works by Sylvester Hegner, Peter Larsen, Mads Lindberg og Markus von Platen. The book is produced by the artists in collaboration with TTC Books, and is part of a series of 3 exhibitions where 2 was arranged by TTC.

(Mark Dion exhibition at Gåsetårnet in Vordingborg)

TUMULT presents a total of 21 artists and artist groups (e.g. Mark Dion, Aleksandra Mir og Superflex), who ‘through entirely new projects will alter reality, cause changes, and create new experiences and excursion possibilities‘. The festival is open to all and free to take part in! ….We didn’t make it to the opening, but fortunately there´s still plenty of opportunities and reasons to go - with a wide range of events, guided tours and performances the next couple of months. We’ll definitely try and make it to the beet-performance!!

So amazing how many people turned up!….And for those of you that didn’t make it through the rain, here’s a few pics of the stunning light installation, designed and build by architect (and what we like to call urban environments developing expert) Christian Dam in collaboration with Roskilde Festival.

…..Might be difficult to tell from these shots, but each small part of the installation asynchronous changed its light intensity, making the total installation appear as a sort of mowing mountain. Amazing! And here’s a few in-the-making and just-before-the-opening shots:
